Best Free AI Keyboard for Android (2026)

You do not have to pay to get AI in your keyboard. Here are the best free AI keyboard options for Android in 2026 and what each free tier actually includes.

AI keyboards can fix grammar, translate, and write replies for you — but many lock those features behind a subscription. If you want AI help without paying up front, here are the best free options for Android in 2026 and what each free tier really gives you.

What "free" actually means for AI keyboards

Basic typing — autocorrect, predictions, swipe, and voice — is free in almost every keyboard. The paid part is usually the AI: grammar rewriting, translation, tone changes, and chat. Some apps give you a free allowance of AI use; others require a subscription for anything AI.

SmartType — free to start, with ways to earn more

SmartType is free to begin using, with a starting balance of AI words and every feature unlocked. When you run low you can earn more free AI words by watching an ad or referring friends, or upgrade for unlimited use. That makes it one of the most generous free AI keyboards, and it covers 369 languages.

Gboard and Samsung Keyboard — free, but lighter AI

Gboard is free and includes a built-in translate feature and great glide typing, but it does not do sentence-level AI grammar rewriting. Samsung Keyboard on supported Galaxy phones includes free Galaxy AI writing tools, but only on those devices. Both are solid free typing keyboards with lighter AI than a dedicated AI keyboard.

The bottom line: if you want real AI writing help for free, start with SmartType and top up your AI words without paying. For the full picture, see the best AI keyboard apps for Android.
